Vascular Surgery FAQs
Clear, evidence-based answers to the questions patients in Hyderabad ask most often about varicose veins, diabetic foot care, DVT, peripheral artery disease and endovascular surgery.
General
Dr. Pritee Sharma is widely recognised as one of Hyderabad's leading Vascular & Endovascular Surgeons, with 21+ years of experience, a DNB Gold Medal in Peripheral Vascular Surgery, and consultancy at the NABH-accredited Renova Century Hospital, Banjara Hills.
Consult a vascular surgeon if you have visible varicose veins, leg pain on walking, persistent leg swelling, non-healing wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, sudden cold or pale limbs, or have been diagnosed with DVT, aneurysm or carotid artery disease.
No. You can book a direct consultation through the website, phone or WhatsApp. Insurance cashless pre-authorisation can be arranged at the hospital.
Renova Century Hospital, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad — 500034, Telangana, India.
Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Emergency vascular cover is available 24×7 at Renova Century Hospital.
Varicose Veins
Modern endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is performed under local anaesthesia and is essentially pain-free. Most patients experience only mild soreness for a few days and walk out the same day.
Closure rates with EVLA and VenaSeal exceed 95% at five years. New veins may develop elsewhere, but the treated vein does not re-open.
Yes. Most insurance and corporate cashless policies cover medically indicated varicose vein treatment. The hospital team helps with pre-authorisation.
No. With VenaSeal glue therapy you don't need stockings at all. After EVLA or RFA, stockings are usually advised only for 1–2 weeks.
Peripheral Artery Disease
Cramping pain in the calf or thigh that appears after walking a fixed distance and is relieved by rest (intermittent claudication) is the classic first sign.
Mild and moderate PAD often responds well to risk-factor control, supervised exercise and medication. Critical blockages may need angioplasty or bypass.
Yes. It is a pinhole, day-care procedure performed under local anaesthesia and is routinely done in patients in their 80s with comorbidities.
Diabetic Foot
In most cases, yes. With timely vascular assessment, revascularisation, infection control and modern wound care, more than 85% of threatened limbs can be saved.
Immediately for any non-healing wound, black toe, foul discharge or rest pain. Yearly screening is recommended for diabetics above 50, smokers or kidney patients.
Soft, closed, broad-toe footwear with microcellular rubber (MCR) insoles. Never walk barefoot, even indoors.
DVT
A bedside duplex ultrasound combined with a D-dimer blood test gives a confident diagnosis of DVT within minutes.
Minimum 3 months for a provoked DVT. Longer or lifelong therapy may be needed for recurrent clots, cancer or inherited thrombophilia.
Yes. The risk is highest in the first 2 years. Risk-factor control, compression stockings and follow-up minimise recurrence.
Endovascular Surgery
Endovascular surgery treats blood vessel disease from inside the vessel using tiny catheters and image guidance — including angioplasty, stenting, EVAR and thrombectomy. Less pain, smaller scars, faster recovery.
For most patients, yes — particularly the elderly and those with heart or lung disease. Long-term imaging surveillance is needed after stent-graft procedures.
A standard infrarenal EVAR takes 90–120 minutes. Most patients are discharged within 2–3 days.
Screening
Anyone above 50, all diabetics, smokers, hypertensives, patients with high cholesterol, family history of aneurysm or stroke, or any unexplained leg symptoms.
No. All standard screening tests are completely non-invasive and painless.
History, examination, ankle-brachial index (ABI), arterial and venous duplex ultrasound, carotid Doppler if indicated, and AAA screening. A written report is provided the same day.
